The Project Engineer is primarily responsible for aiding the project staff in the preconstruction and construction stages of a project. The Project Engineer is responsible for assisting the Project Manager and/or Assistant Project Manager with the daily management, supervision, coordination, and successful completion of the project(s) to meet time and cost objectives with respect to contracting, scheduling, estimating, bidding, and contract administration functions.

Basic Responsibilities
Responsible for reviewing incoming mail, memoranda and routine correspondence and prioritizing for perusal and response.
Composes outgoing correspondence related to specific projects.
Responsible for attending project staff meetings which may require travel.
Performs other related back-up duties for office and field project management as deemed necessary by the Project manager and Superintendent.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Assists in planning project logistics:
    • Material handling and storage
    • Location and set up of trailers; demobilization of project site
    • Set up of utilities, water, sewer, power, telephones, etc.
    • Equipment selection and transportation
    • Preparing and maintaining project directory
    • Obtaining building permits, licenses, Certificates of Occupancies
  • Ensures that subcontractors’ insurance requirements are current.
  • Assists in the review and approval of subcontractor and supplier applications for payment.
  • Documents meetings and conversations for the project record.
  • Maintains good relationships with owners, Architects and subcontractors and promotes the value of Armada/Hoffler Construction Company.
  • Assists in the preparation of punch lists, ensuring that each subcontractor performs their tasks in a timely manner.
  • Compilation and submittal of project close-out documents, warranties, guarantees, as-builts
  • Assists in the close-out of subcontractor’s contracts.
  • Responsible for reviewing, logging, distributing and tracking submittals.
  • Responsible for reviewing, logging, distributing and tracking contract documents (i.e. plans, specifications).
  • Researches, distributes and tracks Requests for Information.
  • Generates CPM schedules utilizing either MS Project or Primavera software.
  • Determines required dates and tracks material deliveries for various trades
  • Assists in the preparation of change orders to the Owner.

Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Two years’ experience as Project Engineer or related position preferred but new grads will be considered
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints
  • Understanding of submittal process
  • Understanding of project schedule logic
  • Understanding of construction terminology, materials and systems
  • Ability to communicate and get along with people
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills to include Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to motivate subcontractors and suppliers
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Ability to assist and support the Project Manager on delegated work loads
  • Must show talents in organization, proactiveness and forward thinking
  • Basic knowledge of construction means and methods
