This state-of-the-art cancer treatment center is one of eight full-scale operating proton facilities in the United States and the largest, free-standing facility of its kind in the world. The project included the construction of five treatment rooms equipped to care for an estimated 2,000 cancer patients a year. Other features of this structure include a glass-enclosed atrium, a fixed-beam room, and four gantries with a three-story rotating gantry.
The two-story brick and glass building overlooks a small lake and, with light streaming in from oversized windows, provides a different atmosphere for cancer patients than other closed clinical spaces. The design emphasizes wellness and includes a healing outdoor garden space with seating adjacent to the lake.
