Sumitomo Machinery Corp. of America (SMA) is a subsidiary of one of the largest machinery manufacturers in Japan, Sumitomo Heavy Industries. The Company’s Chesapeake location represents SMA’s North American headquarters, which counts approximately 200 employees.
The Armada Hoffler Construction Company completed first phase of construction at the Chesapeake facility in December of 1988 and began Phase II of this project a few years later, which consisted in the expansion of both the office and manufacturing space. Over two decades later, the 252,000 square foot facility continues to supply products to customers across the United States.
